National 811 Day Art Contest

Eligibility: Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade enrolled in or zoned for one of the following schools are eligible to participate (These schools are within the Hendersonville Utility District service area). Multiple entries will not be allowed. Students may only submit one entry. 

Eligible Schools: Dr. William Burris Elementary, Gene W. Brown Elementary, George A. Whitten Elementary, Hendersonville Christian Academy, Hendersonville Montessori Academy, Indian Lake Elementary, Lakeside Park Elementary, Merrol Hyde Magnet School, Nannie Berry Elementary, and Walton Ferry Elementary. 

Judging and Winners: Each art piece submitted will be viewable on the Hendersonville Utility District’s Facebook page. A panel of judges will review entries by grade level, and Facebook likes/shares/comments will also be evaluated. Try to submit your entry as early as possible and share with all of your friends! One winner will be selected from each grade. All winners’ artwork will be featured on the Hendersonville Utility District’s Facebook page. Each grade level winner will receive: A t-shirt with their artwork imprinted on it and a Certificate of Achievement.

Theme: The theme for the 2024 Art Contest is SAFE DIGGING in celebration of National 811 Day! August 11 is National 811 Day and highlights the need for homeowners and professional excavators to take the first step in preventing damage to underground utility lines by always calling 811 before beginning any digging or demolition projects. Artwork can be realistic or abstract and may include people, animals, events, and objects. Artwork must be focused on the importance of preventing underground utility damage.

Media and Technique Requirements: Students are encouraged to use bold colors and strong lines. Any of the following media or techniques may be used: 

    • Paint (watercolor, tempera, poster, acrylic, etc.) 

     • Drawings (pencil, charcoal, colored chalk, pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, etc.) 

     • Collages (cut-and-glued materials such as construction paper, tissue paper, wrapping paper, aluminum foil, etc.) 

 Size Requirements: Photo files of artwork should be no larger than 50 MB. Photo files must be .jpg or .png; no other file type will be accepted. Photo resolution should not exceed 3000 x 3000 pixels. 

 Submission of Artwork: Email all submissions directly to National811Day@hendutil.net. Please include the following information: Your child’s name, school attended, current grade, and parent’s contact information. 

 *Be sure to save the original artwork in case further documentation is needed. 

Deadline for Entries: All entries must be received no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, September 9, 2024. Entries submitted after the deadline will not be eligible to win. 

Notification of Winners: Winners will be notified within 7 calendar days after the end of the contest entry period.
